National team comes together to share expertise and ideas

Newship Group

Background

Newship Group, spanning 12 different companies across packaging, construction, engineering and premium hire sectors, wanted to strengthen collaboration among its different teams of marketing managers and tap into their collective expertise, unlock knowledge sharing and spark cross-company innovation.

To achieve this, two back-to-back Team Away Days were organised bringing together the teams from all over the country.

The challenge

The task was to help the group focus on planning while structuring an event that would engage everyone, ensuring all voices were heard, not just the most outgoing. The day also needed to generate practical ideas for lead generation, customer engagement and best practice sharing.

Newship selected Tandem to create and facilitate the event, drawing on previous positive experiences.

Kirsty Mumford, Commercial Director at Pont (Newship Group), had worked with us before and was confident in our ability to devise an inclusive, high-energy environment and provide tangible, practical next steps.

Our approach

Our involvement began before the event, engaging participants to gather expectations and set the tone. Our team, led by Hayley, Elaine and Yesim, provided ongoing support, offering fresh ideas and designed the agenda to the group’s needs.

The first task was for the cohort to set objectives and ensure there was alignment across the Group.

Our facilitation style was fast-paced and varied, designed to keep everyone engaged and ensure that all participants contributed. Activities were carefully selected to engage everyone in the room and encourage genuine collaboration, for example mixing up team members for different tasks, small and large group discussions. Our empathetic and energetic approach created a positive, inclusive atmosphere.

And there was a lot of fun and a lot of laughter.

The results

The team away days delivered tangible results:

  • Improved communication channels: new ways for marketing managers to stay connected and collaborate.
  • Adoption of best practices: sharing and implementing ideas that enhance marketing effectiveness.
  • Greater cohesion and confidence: a stronger sense of team identity, clarity, and confidence in decision-making.
  • Ongoing engagement: continued interaction and idea-sharing across the group beyond the event.

“Tandem didn’t just facilitate the day. They brought it to life. Their approach meant everyone was engaged, not just the most outgoing. We left with practical actions, ideas, new connections and a real sense of team spirit.

The ongoing support and fresh perspectives they brought made all the difference.”
